Women-owned leadership with thirty-eight years of combined care experience in Oregon.

Caring Companion Caregivers was established in early 2023 by Owner Gemma Ben Sunga and Administrative Manager Andrea Gillam to deliver disciplined, non-acute home care across Oregon City and the greater Portland metropolitan region.

Root.

Caringcompanioncaregivers (trading as Caring Companion Caregivers LLC at caringcompanioncaregivers.us) operates as a women-owned and managed non-acute home care agency headquartered at 502 7th St Ste 208D, Oregon City, OR 97045-2246, United States.

The agency was founded in early 2023 by Gemma Ben Sunga and Andrea Gillam. Both founders built this organization after decades inside institutional healthcare and community-based support programs across Clackamas and Multnomah counties. The enterprise exists to solve a specific structural flaw observed across national staffing franchises: the frequent rotation of unvetted, unfamiliar personnel through private residences.

Instead of running a transient clearinghouse of independent contractors, Caring Companion Caregivers maintains an employed staff of dedicated personal care aides, home health companions, and licensed nurses. We operate under Oregon administrative standards, serving families throughout Oregon City, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Gladstone, Milwaukie, the wider Portland metro, and the border communities commonly referred to as Caring 'Couve (Vancouver, WA).

Notice of Non-Acute Status: Caring Companion Caregivers provides supportive non-acute home care and daily living assistance. Our services do not replace a licensed medical physician, acute hospital care, or emergency medical response services.

Direct.

Agency operations are personally managed by the two founders, ensuring direct administrative accountability for every shift placed.

When a family contacts our dispatch office at (971) 282-7202, the initial intake review is conducted by Gemma Ben Sunga or Andrea Gillam rather than an overseas call service. Over 38 years of combined care experience inform how shifts are scheduled, how care plans are calibrated, and how compatibility is evaluated between caregiver and client.

Gemma Ben Sunga

Owner & Director of Care

With decades in direct bedside assistance, client advocacy, and community care operations, Gemma oversees caregiver screening, in-home safety evaluations, and personalized daily routines. Her focus ensures that every shift preserves dignity, physical safety, and respectful boundaries for vulnerable adults.

Andrea Gillam

Administrative Manager

Andrea manages agency logistics, shift reliability, state compliance records, and family communication protocols. Her background in long-term care administration ensures that visits occur on schedule, shift handoffs carry clear documentation, and billing remains completely transparent.

Screen.

Every caregiver placed in an Oregon residence undergoes exhaustive vetting before their first home introduction.

Safety in the private home demands rigorous employment screening. We do not dispatch unverified help. Before an aide is scheduled for any booking:

1. Criminal Background Verification: Statewide and nationwide multi-jurisdictional criminal background searches, including Oregon Department of Human Services registries.

2. Professional Reference Validation: Mandatory verification of past caregiving employment, verifying reliability, bedside manners, and transfer competency.

3. Hands-on Transfer Evaluation: Practical skills demonstration covering gait belt mechanics, wheelchair transfers, shower chair security, and fall prevention protocols.

4. Infection Control & PPE Protocol: Training on nitrile glove application, sanitization of high-touch contact points, and respiratory health monitoring.

Demarcate.

Clear boundaries protect clients and caregivers alike. We explicitly state what our agency will not do.

Caring Companion Caregivers does not provide acute clinical therapy, emergency paramedic care, surgical rehabilitation, or psychiatric crisis intervention. Sessions focus strictly on practical daily living support, routine household assistance, and scheduled companionship.

Our agency is not suitable for individuals requiring unmanaged aggressive behavioral restraint, continuous mechanical ICU ventilation, or invasive medical interventions outside the scope of licensed Oregon home health nursing. Prior to our first visit, a complete family consultation and home safety review must take place, with lead time running between 24 and 48 hours.
